Chapter 2
Claireâs house transformed that night. The lights dimmed low, casting the familiar space in new shadows. Candles flickered everywhereâfat pillar candles in glass hurricanes on the mantle, clusters of tea lights tracing paths along the baseboards, their golden light dancing across the walls like fireflies at dusk. Jasmine and sandalwood incense threaded through the air, wrapping around us like an invisible embrace.
It wasnât sexy. Not immediately.
It was sacred.
Jenny had worked her magic on the living room, draping silk fabrics across the ceiling to create a tent-like cocoon that caught the candlelight and diffused it into a warm glow. Marisaâs contribution came in the form of wildflowersânot formal arrangements but natural clusters that looked as though theyâd grown right through the floorboards. Lisaâs music selection pulsed quietly through hidden speakers, slow rhythms that vibrated through me.
I paused at the threshold, taking it all in. Each element reflected the women whoâd brought me to this moment. Claireâs elegant touch in the arrangement of candlesâthe same woman whoâd first shown me that desire could be both powerful and tender. Jennyâs attention to comfort and emotional safety, creating a space where vulnerability felt like strength. Sophiaâs precision in every detail, teaching me that pleasure was found in the meticulous moments between breaths.
Everything invited surrender.
Emily stood near the entryway, a vision in a cream-colored nightgown that brushed her bare feet. Her dark curls tumbled loose around her shoulders, catching amber highlights from the candles. Her hands fidgeted in front of her, fingers twisting together then releasing, unsure of their purpose. Her eyes darted around the roomâtaking in the candles, the music, the women who moved through the space with practiced ease.
Her gaze found mine, and the smile that bloomed across her face started small, hesitant, but reached her eyes with unmistakable warmth.
I crossed to her unhurried, giving her time to retreat if she needed. My heart pounded against my ribs as I approached. This wasnât just another encounterâthis was Emilyâs first time. The weight of that trust settled on my shoulders, both heavy and exhilarating.
âYou okay?â I asked, stopping just short of touching her.
She nodded once, then again with more certainty. âYeah. Just... Iâve never done anything like this.â
âI know,â I replied, watching the candlelight play across her features. âThatâs what makes it special.â
A nervous laugh escaped her. âI thought Iâd feel embarrassed. Or terrified. But itâs strangeâIâm actually excited.â
âThatâs exactly how you should feel,â I said, stepping closer. The scent of her shampooâsomething citrusy and cleanâmingled with the roomâs heavier notes. I reached up slowly and brushed a single curl from her cheek, my fingertips grazing her skin.
Her breath caught audibly.
âYou look beautiful,â I told her, meaning every syllable.
âYou look like trouble,â she whispered, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
âMaybe,â I murmured, leaning slightly closer until I could feel the warmth radiating from her skin. âBut only the good kind.â
Behind us, the others moved with quiet purposeâlighting more candles, adjusting cushions, creating the perfect environment while giving us space. Their presence hummed in the background, supportive but unobtrusive.
